Security Innovation Imperative in 2025 and Beyond

Looking into the future and in particular 2025 and beyond the most clear word that comes to mind in the security space and its evolving atmosphere is: innovation.

Companies need to embrace an adaptable security model.

As the economies of the world change a host of problems can be generated in areas not limited to politics, social science, and industry. Further emphasized by a much more visible public image of leaders of their sectors. Let's take a closer look at what this means in the direct sense.

Recently, a highly visible murder was carried out on a healthcare executive that many speculate could have related to a vendetta the alleged shooter had against the industry. Yet, as we look at the causes I am much more interested in the lack of security integration in this case. CEOs and public facing figures should have robust security plans in place for travel, business work periods, and have a consistent approach to this area of security in general. When looking at costs and looking at safety measures, without leadership personal safety as a top priority, it is impossible to run an organization.

One military phrase often used in training is "stay alert, stay alive" and this is germane for all public facing leaders in that staying alert is maintaining a stable and consistent security plan.

Innovation plays into this because as the economy is evolving, so are the threats people face. Social media leaves average people, leaders of smaller companies, and large companies more exposed and more susceptible to public curiosity. Security experts also must innovate in that they must learn how to identify online threats and detect fact patterns online and in email traffic. Organizing and preparation is a full time exercise and the more integrated security planning within any organization, the more successful it will be.

This falls on both the security experts and the clients in which they serve. Both parties must innovate with industries keeping us up to date with the threats they face and we as security experts preparing new and nascent tactics and techniques to secure the clients.

Two specific ideas come to mind for what companies should look for in 2025. The first is both the threat analysis and hard security needs of leadership within a company and robust security plans for travel. The second is assigning a security liaison within these companies to hire security contractors based on their expertise and reputation shaping the national and international security climate.

In short, taking security seriously is an investment in not just a company's safety, but the company's future as well.
